While the design may not be a shocker to those who have been closely following World Cup news, Adidas finally made the design for the German national team’s away jersey public on Tuesday, making the retro 90’s design official.

The green away jersey very closely resembles the design worn by the German team when they won their third title during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, and the likeness is no coincidence.

“The jagged pattern, which is reminiscent of the design of 1990 and immortalized in the form of a chest ring on the home shirt, has been multiplied: It runs in different weights across the entire front, the sleeves and in the collar,” Adidas said announcing the design. “Thus, the design pays off on the overarching strategy of football products at Adidas: ‘from authenticity to progression.”

White and green is also used around the neck adorned with the words “Die Mannschaft”, or “The Crew”, and the uniform is completed with a pair of white shorts and green socks.

“Our home colors will always be white and black,” said national team player Julian Draxler. “But I think if we go out like that [in green], we do not have to hide.”
